Getting started
- Install. Download the file for your computer from the download page and open it.
- Sign in. Choose Continue with GitHub, or Continue as guest to start without an account.
- Create a file. Click New file, pick a language and give the file a name.
- Run it. Write your program and press Run. The output appears in the console under the editor.
Install on a Mac
On a Mac, install PrepCode with one command. It works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
- Open Terminal. Press Cmd + Space, type Terminal and press Enter.
- Paste this command and press Enter:
curl -fsSL https://prepcode.dev/install.sh | bash - Wait a moment. PrepCode downloads, installs into Applications and opens by itself.
The script downloads the latest PrepCode from our GitHub releases, copies it to Applications and opens it. PrepCode isn’t notarised by Apple yet, so macOS would call a downloaded copy “damaged”. The script clears the download flag on PrepCode only, so it can open. You can read the script before you run it.
Already downloaded the .dmg?
Drag PrepCode into Applications, then run this command in Terminal and open the app again:
xattr -cr /Applications/prepcode.appFiles: Apple Silicon .dmg · Intel .dmg. If macOS shows an “unidentified developer” message instead, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway next to PrepCode.
Install on Linux
Open a terminal, paste the same command and press Enter:
curl -fsSL https://prepcode.dev/install.sh | bashOn Debian and Ubuntu it installs the .deb, on Fedora and openSUSE the .rpm, and on other distributions the AppImage (no admin rights needed). You may be asked for your password. The script opens PrepCode when it finishes. If you prefer, download a file yourself: .AppImage · .deb · .rpm. AppImages need FUSE 2 on newer Ubuntu (sudo apt install libfuse2).
Updates
PrepCode checks for new versions and installs them when you close the app. You don’t need to download it again.
