Privacy Policy
PrepCode is a desktop app made by Meikural. This policy explains what PrepCode and this website collect, why, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it plain.
Who we are
PrepCode is made by Meikural (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at info@prepcode.dev.
What stays on your computer
The programs you write, their saved history and your settings are stored on your computer. If you use guest mode, your files are stored in a separate guest workspace on your computer and are not sent anywhere. PrepCode also keeps a log file on your computer to help fix problems. You can find it in your operating system’s logs folder and delete it whenever you like.
What we collect, and why
| What | When | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your GitHub username, profile picture and account ID | You sign in with GitHub | To identify your account in the app and keep your workspace separate | Read from GitHub and used on your computer. Your sign-in token is kept in your computer’s secure store (Keychain, Credential Manager or similar). |
| Your programs | You use Sync | To save your work and bring it to another computer | A public repository named prepcode-programs on your own GitHub account |
| Error and crash reports | The app hits an error or crashes | To find and fix bugs | Our error-reporting provider, Sentry |
| Update checks | The app looks for a new version | To keep PrepCode up to date | GitHub Releases |
| Practice questions and job listings | You open Practice or Jobs | To show you the content | Our database provider, Supabase. We load content; we don’t send your programs. |
| Your name, email and organisation, and for colleges the number of students and your message | You fill in the PrepCode Teacher or PrepCode Campus form on this website | To reply to you about PrepCode Teacher or PrepCode Campus | Our database provider, Supabase |
Sync and your public repository
When you use Sync, PrepCode asks GitHub for permission to create and write to a public repository called prepcode-programs on your account. Because it is public, anyone on the internet can view the programs you sync. Don’t sync anything private, such as passwords, keys or personal details. You can delete the repository or any file in it on GitHub at any time, and you can revoke PrepCode’s access in your GitHub settings under Applications.
Error reports
When PrepCode crashes or logs an error, it can send a report to Sentry with technical details such as the app version, your operating system and what the app was doing. Before sending, PrepCode replaces your home folder name in file paths with ~ and removes your computer’s name. It does not send your code or your file names, and we don’t ask for IP addresses or request headers.
Third parties
PrepCode relies on a few services, and each has its own privacy policy:
- GitHub for sign-in, sync and update downloads.
- Sentry for error reports.
- Supabase for practice questions and job listings.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and may log standard request details such as your IP address when you visit it.
Whenever your computer contacts these services, they can see technical details such as your IP address, as with any internet connection. Job listings come from public job search results and link to the employers’ own pages. We aren’t part of those applications.
This website
This website doesn’t use advertising trackers. It stores one setting in your browser, your light or dark theme choice. If you fill in the Teacher or Campus form, we save what you enter so we can contact you about it, and nothing else. If we add analytics later, we’ll update this page.
How long we keep things
Error reports are kept only as long as needed to fix the problem. Your programs and your GitHub data stay with you and GitHub until you delete them. Job listings are removed from our database after a period of time. Waitlist and contact details are kept until we’ve contacted you about the product you asked about, or until you ask us to delete them.
Your choices
- Use guest mode to avoid signing in.
- Sign out of PrepCode to remove the saved sign-in token from your computer.
- Delete the
prepcode-programsrepository or revoke PrepCode’s access from your GitHub account. - Delete your local files and log folder, or uninstall the app.
- Email us to ask about, correct or delete any information we hold about you. We’ll respond as soon as we reasonably can, and we follow the rights available to you under applicable law, including India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Children
PrepCode is made for college and university students. If you are under 18, please use it with the permission of a parent or your institution.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll say so in the app or on the website.
